Regulatory bodies in the state of Texas are vigilant in monitoring the activities of insurers doing business in this state. The greatest concern of regulators is the effect of the insurer’s business practices on the consumer, or patient. If the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) receives as few as three complaints regarding an insurer from a consumer or patient, the TDI will require the insurer to attend a hearing in order for the insurer to be able to renew their license to continue doing business and to assure that the consumer’s concerns are appropriately addressed.
Patients concerned with the management of their health benefits should be reminded of the purpose and authority of the TDI and their concern for patients’ rights and the protection of healthcare benefits. As we understand that your time and your patient’s time are limited, the Texas Chiropractic Association and American Chiropractic Association have developed a Patient Benefits Questionnaire to quickly provide information to regulatory agencies. This form will allow patients, in less than one minute, to voice their concerns and request that a regulator call to speak with them. By collecting this information, we hope to provide regulators insight into the sense of the frustration patients feel regarding not being able to freely use their benefits as they and their doctor feel is necessary.
Please complete the Patient Benefits Questionnaire and fax it to the TDI at: 512-475-1771.
